"Run Away by Matthew Wood is perhaps, of all the tracks here,
the one that's so unusual to find outside the Fence Collective...very
much in the spirit of both James Yorkston and Lone Pigeon, a crisper
and more magical moment of lazy eyed rustic charm you'll be hard pushed
to find elsewhere." - Losing Today
Matthew Wood is based in Liverpool. He has worked as a composer, musical
director and performer in repertory and international touring theatre,
from Kuwait to Ballybofey. He also composes for radio drama (a previous
Sony award winner), and peforms as a singer / guitarist / accordionist
both as a solo artist and with the Liverpool groups Yellow Kid and
Dead Belgian.
Matthew's debut release was the highly-acclaimed 'Run Away', a track
which appeared on our 'Extended Play' EP. The song received Radio
One airplay from the late John Peel and attracted comparisons to the
likes of Nick Drake and James Yorkston. His next record, an as-yet
untitled mini-album, is scheduled for release later this year. More
news on this and accompanying live dates to follow...
