"Richard Turner's vocals seesaw like a warped Andy Williams
record and for this alone, we love the Wisemen" - Vanity Project,
Dec 04
The Wisemen are a Lancaster-based 4-piece consisting of Richard
Turner (singing, songs, guitar); Scott Morley (guitar, mandolin,
banjo, harp); Paddy Garrigan (bass, mandolin, fiddle, autoharp,
accordion, keys); and Gulli Brodbeck (drums). They have self-released
two EPs and two mini-albums between 2000-2004 and are due to contribute
a song towards Regular Beat's next compilation EP.
When performing as an acoustic group, the band play instruments
including guitar, mandolin, banjo, autoharp, fiddle, and harmonica.
which encourages a leaning towards folk-bluegrass-country-blues
stylings, albeit with an 'alt' stuck in front of it. However, when
playing electrically, the Wisemen tend to crank up and let loose
them demons with timber-shaking, often ramshackle, live performances.
Both styles have earned the band a fast-growing reputation in the
North West and 2006 promises much for Lancaster's favourite sons.
