'Nick
Cave meets the desert....moody and sombre...I'm sure The Coral have
had a stab at making songs in this genre sincere, but their lack of
ranch time left them for dead.'
The Plastic
Ashtray
Taking their cues from old blues, gospel and country records, Iain
and Andy Kirkcaldy released their first record as Yellow Kid from
a Penny Lane basement in 2003 (a
low-key split-7" featuring themselves and Ambrose Tompkins).
They contributed
a track called 'Lazy Song' (a collaboration
with Arizona-based writer/poet Andrew Pidoux) towards the 'Extended
Play' EP - a well-received track which was played by John Peel in
August 04 - and have a song on the current split-EP from Regular Beat
entitled 'Far At Sea'.
The brothers Kirkcaldy are currently
holed up in a Liverpool studio recording their first E.P.
